In the field of automation control and electronic equipment, PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) chip and SoC (System on Chip) chip both play an important role, there are many differences between them.


First of all, in terms of functional positioning, PLC chip is mainly designed for industrial automation control. Its function focuses on logic control, sequence control and timing control in the industrial production process. For example, in the automobile production line, PLC chip can accurately control the sequence of action of the robotic arm to ensure the accurate assembly of automobile parts, PLC chip according to the pre-written program, stable and efficient judgment of various input signals, and output control signals to drive motors, valves and other actuators.


The SoC chip is a highly integrated system-level chip with more diversified functions. Among them, the CPU, as the core computing unit, is responsible for performing a variety of complex calculations and instruction scheduling, while the GPU is specialized in graphics processing, capable of rendering images and videos efficiently. The communication module supports a variety of communication protocols, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 5G, etc., to ensure the communication function of the device. The storage module has not only cache, but also high-capacity storage unit for fast reading and writing data.


In terms of application areas, PLC chip is mainly used in industrial control field. It is widely used in automated production lines, industrial robots, process control systems in manufacturing, chemical, electric power, etc. PLC chips are able to work stably in harsh industrial environments and have strong anti-interference ability, which can ensure the continuity and reliability of industrial production.


SoC chips have a wider range of applications. From the perspective of performance and power consumption, PLC chips pay more attention to stability and real-time. It needs to run stably for a long time in industrial environments, with high response speed requirements, and in terms of power consumption, industrial environments usually have relatively small limits on their power consumption.


SoC chips, on the other hand, need to find a balance between performance and power consumption. In mobile devices, in order to ensure the endurance of the device, the need to minimize power consumption; at the same time, in order to meet the user's demand for high-performance equipment, such as game operation, high-definition video playback, and to continuously improve the computing performance and graphics processing performance.


PLC chips and SoC chips have obvious differences in functional positioning, internal structure, application areas, performance and power consumption, and they each play an irreplaceable role in different fields.
